State Regulations

The National Home Inspector Examination is currently adopted and/or recognized by twenty-four states for home inspector regulation. It is also a membership requirement for the American Institute of Inspectors and American Society of Home Inspectors; is accepted by the National Association of Home Inspectors and the Florida Association of Building Inspectors; and is reimbursed by the US Veterans' Administration for military personnel re-entering the workforce.

On July 1, 2008, the state of Kansas enacted the Home Inspection Certification and Financial Responsibility Act (KS ST 58-4502) and the Bill was signed by the Governor on April 23, 2009. On or after January 1, 2010, individuals performing home inspections must be registered with the Kansas Home Inspector Registration Board (KHIRB).  The KHIRB is a five member board appointed by the Governor.

Qualifications for registration:  Individuals performing home inspections must be 18 or older, must have successfully completed high school or show that the individual was performing fee paid inspections prior to start date of the regulations, must have general liability insurance of not less than $100,000 and A SURETY BOND OF not less than $10,000, pass an examination approved by the KHIRB, complete 80 hours of approved education or have 2 years experience and have performed 50 fee paid inspections.
